Recent TFA Alum to Prospective Teachers: Don’t Do TFA

One of the more popular pieces on this site is my interview with TFA teacher Elsa Stanley.  She recently finished her two years and posted a concluding entry to her blog. In our interview and in her writing, she has mixed feedback on TFA, offering criticism, but also acknowledging where she thinks the org does well.  However, in this concluding entry, she pulls no punches and tells prospective teachers to not join TFA:  “…if you’re thinking about doing TFA, don’t.”   This echos what Special Ed teacher KatieO recently urged and what many alums and critics said at the Free Minds, Free People conference last month.  Check out Elsa’s latest entry and past ones for more on her experience.
